Our Overdrive accounts allow you to borrow up to 5 items at a time and you can have 10 holds. Hold preferences can be changed in the settings. Place a hold to reserve the book and Overdrive will notify you when it is ready. This means that popular books in the collection may be checked out to other patrons.
Most eBooks and Audiobooks on Overdrive can only be checked out by one patron at a time per copy. Overdrive is a digital collection that usually works just like a physical library. The first time you use the Libby app, the app will give you a helpful tour to get started. Select a book and then select ‘Borrow’ or ‘Place Hold’ to add it to your ‘Shelf’. Once you log into the Overdrive website or set up the Libby app, you can use the search bar to search for items by title, author, or keywords, or you can browse through the several collections on display. You’ll be asked to identify your library, and then enter your valid Walpole Library card number as well as the PIN that you use to access your library account. There is no download option for the Libby browser app it appears to be there is mention of downloading to an SD card on Android devices.Easy, you are already signed up! On the OverDrive website, or within the Libby app, click ‘Sign in using library card’. You can download audiobooks to the Libby mobile app for offline listening within the Libby app, but there does not appear to be a sanctioned way to get the offline files out of the mobile device for transfer to another device. You must listen to audiobooks using the Libby mobile app or Libby browser app. So at least you aren't forced to use Libby to read ebooks, just audiobooks.ĮTA: Since there seems to be some misunderstanding further down this thread: There is no Libby desktop app that allows you to download audiobook mp3 files for transfer to an mp3 player. acsm files so that you can download an ebook using ADE. However, Libby does provide an option to download. So as Catlady says, we're going to have to "use a stupid app" when they finally phase out Overdrive.
It doesn't look like this is going to change, either. You have to use the Libby app to listen, and the Libby audiobook player is pretty terrible, IMO. There is no way to download audiobooks with Libby (see below for clarification).
